Original artwork description
This is an acrylic painting on alu di-bond, framed in a custom-made wood frame, painted black. I built up the painting starting with layers of bright transparent colour which I then smothered with deep anthraquinone blue. I then lifted out to reveal the warm vibrant colours beneath. I find this sublime – something very beautiful is occluded and then revealed through controlled accident, creating an uninhibited and unrepeatable surface. This process of making is one which is not left purely to chance but is rather intuitive and guided. I wanted to create a mood of the warmth of the day, a memory, covered over, but gently held in a fruitful darkness.
