Original artwork description:

On a trip to Monaco, I was captivated by the intricate tile work on the walls- each tile a small masterpiece of color and pattern. As I admired them, I imagined their secret lives. What if, instead of being permanently fixed, the tiles sat on the surface, free to shift and move about?
In my story, Failed Escape, the tiles rest lightly on the wall, able to slide and mingle, plotting their escape from the monotony of their daily view. They dream of adventure beyond the familiar patterns. Yet, as they attempt their great escape, shuffling into new formations or slipping toward the edge, they find freedom is more complicated than imagined. Some lose balance, others get stuck, and a few end up right back where they started, a little chipped but wiser.
This idea transforms Monaco’s tilework into a living mosaic, where each tile’s position on the wall’s surface is temporary, and every day brings a new arrangement. The wall becomes a stage for the tiles’ quest for novelty - a reminder that even the most beautiful patterns can long for change, and sometimes the journey doesn’t go as planned.

Materials used:

Acrylic and collage paper
