Ex Boyfriends 1 is a textured, mixed media sculpture exploring the emotional imprint of everyday materials. Denim – faded, worn, shaped by bodies—becomes the skin of memory. Ukrainian artist Inga Makarova collages sections of actual jeans onto canvas, preserving their stitching, zippers, and history. Over this, she applies enamel in deep, visceral tones.

The title – drawn from both the cut of jeans and the stories that come with them—invites the viewer to consider how our personal lives are layered, stitched, and painted over. Each seam may carry a private reference: affection, vulnerability, dismissal, strength. This is sculpture as diary entry – quiet, ironic, potent.
