Painted en plein air from an elevated terrace, this 30x40cm oil painting captures the historic heart of Sainte-Maxime as evening sets in. The composition focuses on the charming, narrow streets leading the eye toward the distant bell tower, framed by traditional Provençal buildings.
I was particularly interested in capturing the transition of light. The warm, earthy ochres of the buildings are beginning to soften as the first deep indigo and lavender shadows appear in the cool evening air. Bold, expressive brushwork defines the textures of the stone and tiled roofs. Painted on location in Southern France, this piece offers a nostalgic and authentic perspective on daily life on the French Riviera.
