Original artwork description
50 x 70 cm, paper, playing cards and acrylic on canvas, 2020
Built like a playing card, this canvas can have several interpretations. It can already represent two different people or two personalities within the same woman.
"to be" is made of atlas pages. She is facing out and looking straight ahead. It embodies the world, nature, the essential, introspection, knowledge, actions, commitment. With her purple hair, she shows for example her feminism.
"credit" is made up of cards from the game La Bonne Paye
that can be purchased during the game. She seems to be admiring herself in a mirror or looking at something she wants. It embodies superficiality, materialism, impulse buying, individualism, selfishness.
These two opposing worlds are found in each of us. We are constantly switching from one to the other, influenced by society or the group effect.
The canvas is varnished and equipped with a hanging system.
