Edges V (2019) Original Acrylic Painting by Andrew Hardy

50 x 60 x 4cm (unframed) / 50 x 60cm (actual image size)

£2,250

Edges V is one of a series of eighteen individual paintings, all of equal dimensions, that when hung together form a mural-sized composite work presented in a grid layout. All eighteen paintings are intended to either work separately or configured as a large mural, entitled Edges I-XVIII. These paintings are now being offered for sale individually.

This series encapsulates many of the techniques and processes involved in making monochromatic abstract works (hard-edge painting, under-painting, gesture, materiality, risk, the reflection of light) and it explores the tensions that exist between control and unforeseen chance occurrences. Different surfaces have been used - canvas, linen, aluminium and plywood - and each individual painting in the mural has been made using a system of rules and controls with freedom given to chance outcomes.

Andrew Hardy is an English painter who lives and works in London. Following a long career as a creative director he now devotes himself full-time to painting. In 2019 he graduated with a BA (Hons) Painting (1st Class) from Camberwell College of Arts which is part of the University of the Arts, London. During 2019-20 he had a studio at Turps Art School in London which provides an alternative educational environment at master's degree level for postgraduate painters. His association with Turps Art School continues.

Andrew Hardy paints in an abstract language, using abstraction to explore broader questions of materiality, repetition, gesture and chance.
