Original artwork description
Painting from the series Spatial history,
In the series Spatial history, Parr revisits the memory of places and journeys that are often defined by emotion. Tensions between past and present, joy and saudade, presence and absence continue to inhabit her visual language, expressed through a set of coded references and metaphors which she explore through the balance of spontaneity and controlled intention during the painting process. She uses pallet knife, brush, cloth and sponge, building up layers and washing away in a process that becomes as important to remove as to add, a kind of reverberation of relationship with the canvas of addition and subtraction, push and pull.
She intends to create something that is ambiguous, chimerical, organic and elemental.
Signed and dated on the side of the canvas the painting is ready to hang. The canvas is deep edged 4.4 cm which shows small signs of the working process to the canvas side.
