Early Morning Awakening (2017) is one of Zakhar Shevchuk’s most ambitious early canvases, measuring 105x162 cm. Created over two months of daily work, the painting became an extended exploration of how oil paint can replicate the luminous qualities of skin.

The reclining nude is rendered in subtle layers of tone, set against a cool blue and grey background. Shevchuk discovered that the effect of radiance was not achievable through traditional mixing but required countless layers of paint, each complementing the other. From a distance, the skin appears to shine with warmth and depth; up close, one sees the accumulation of strokes and tones, each part of a careful construction.

The composition is serene yet powerful, balancing intimacy with monumentality. For Shevchuk, this work marked a new stage of technical understanding and artistic maturity. For collectors, it is an opportunity to acquire a significant milestone in the artist’s development.
