About this painting: Autumnal ornamental grasses sway in the breeze with dapples of sunlight gilding their tiny seeds with bursts of light. The painting exudes warm tones & a sense of calm which bring a comforting ambience into a room. The grasses move across the canvas as if animated. The golden tones of grass fronds are backed by deep aubergine & magenta tones with purple & blue shades bring a subtle sense of distance.
Durability- ‘The ability to last over time, resisting wear, breakage, deterioration, damage.’
Golden grasses grow in my border, where I can see them as I paint.
I watch them sway in the wind & create dapples of light in the evening sun. Over the year they change from vibrant green fronds, create fluffy plumes & slowly let the breeze capture their seeds & carry them away. So from the first days of Spring, over the Summer & Autumn & right through the Winter they stand strong bringing me joy as they dance.
Their durability across the seasons also give me strength. As I watch them flex & bend, they remind me that to last the course there needs to be flexibility as strength. When the unpredictable weather throws everything at them, they endure by bending & moving with the flow & lasting throughout the year.

The challenges of our own lives require the same sort of adaptability. As the world throws ever more unforeseeable circumstances our way, we need to find ways to adapt & not let them break us.
We need to be conscious to what is happening both in the greater world & in our immediate surroundings but somehow not let them get us down or damage us.
Having compassion & softness needs to be balanced with creating a protective bubble around us so that everything doesn’t overwhelm us. We all have different ways of doing this & we have to keep reminding ourselves to reinforce that shell without it becoming too hard.
