Drawing inspiration from the repetition of spot paintings, this piece subverts that formality with a whimsical, narrative twist.
The 'spots' 3mm edges are painted in matte acrylic in a variety of candy colours, each individually treated with a wood sealer and gesso before painting. Vintage paper was also gessoed before painting and attached to the dots and carefully cut. After arranging and wood glued into place, a vintage lady on a ladder was cut from a 1950's magazine and her basket filled with paper spots while she reaches for a paper spot. She has been given a coat of UV protection.
This has all been meticulously crafted onto a 12x16 inch Ampersand board that has a slight canvas like texture and has been painted in matte white on the surface and edges.
A hole on the back allows this to go straight onto a nail but as a collage I would recommend it be framed for protection and it would look super in a clear acrylic box frame where the sculptural, 3D effect and colours can be enjoyed as you move around the work.
