Vestige - Large Diptych ( 2 panel) (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Kseniia Turik

100 x 150 x 3cm (unframed)

Vestige is a large abstract diptych — two panels *50/100 each ,that together read like a cross-section of a waterfall, caught at the exact moment the water becomes weightless. Pearl, pale blue, deep blue and the white foam of the plunge meet across the panels. A contemporary abstract painting about falling water and the silence inside it.

The work began with a memory. I had travelled to see waterfalls, and what stayed with me was not the noise or the scale — it was the inside of the fall. When you stand close and look across the cross-section of the plunging water, there is a strange weightlessness. Everything is moving, and yet for a second, the water seems to hold itself in the air. Vestige is my attempt to paint that suspended moment — the trace (vestige) of something enormous, distilled into stillness.

I built the surface in many layers of acrylic, waiting for each to settle before the next, then sealed the whole painting with varnish to hold the depth and let the light move across the pearl and the blues. No resin — the softness of the surface matters here. The two panels are meant to hang side by side with a small gap between them, so the eye travels across the break, the way the water actually moves.

Vestige belongs to a body of work about weather, water and the threshold moments — the instant before a wave breaks, the pause inside a plunge, the quiet a large room needs to become a home. It reads beautifully above a long sofa, in an entrance hall, a reading room, a meditation space, or a bedroom that wants to breathe. The sides of both panels are finished in deep tone, so the diptych hangs without a frame.
