At home, away from the world.
'Dinner for one' describes a man tucking into his evening meal. He sits alone, isolated from the comings and goings of daily life. He may cut a figure of loneliness, however there are reasons not to view him in such a pessimistic light.
His dinner, a soup of galactic dimensions, is a reflection perhaps of what occupies him. His mind has not withered in a melancholic haze: instead, he engages with the act of being, as he ponders the monumental nature of our existence.
