Original artwork description
50 x 70 cm - paper and acrylic on canvas - 2021
Devotion (feminine noun): Almost religious attachment to something or someone; veneration.
It is this definition of Larousse which determined the title of the canvas. A true counterpart to "L'icone", from which it takes the format and Instagram notifications, "La dévotion" denounces the cult of the person on social networks. Followers worship influencers as if they were new gods, drinking in their words and buying their products. In this painting, however, I wanted to add an additional dimension: the holy figure represented here is also in total admiration before the social networks, which give him his power.
I used in this canvas reproductions of self-portraits in the field of painting (Gauguin, the Douanier Rousseau and Kokoschka) to symbolize the selfies, and Parisian ties to represent the nimbus surrounding the heads of saints in religion.
The canvas is varnished and equipped with a hanging system.
Materials used:
Paper and Acrylic on canvas
