My paintings are often inspired by my love and fascination with ever-changing skies and cloud formation. I try to capture the movement and mood of the skies and sea - Calm and dreamy, to dramatic and surreal.
In this piece, I aimed to capture the still, calm sea off the coast of Conwy, North Wales. as dawn was breaking - leaving the peace of the Marina on a falling tide, towards the straits and the mercurial Irish sea.
I study the skies over the Cheshire hills, close to my home and also the coastal skies over North Wales,
The sky's layers and ripples in the water are developed by forming texture through layering and blending the oil paint, building depth, movement and highlights.
