Original artwork description
Darn Fence
A rough intersection rises from the surface, raw and uncompromising. Thick, weathered strokes cross one another like beams worn by time, evoking a fence patched and rebuilt again and again. Earthy browns, rusted golds, and pale greys carry the memory of exposure—of wind, friction, and endurance—while deep black grounds the structure in weight and resistance.
The composition feels both protective and restrictive. The crossing lines suggest a barrier, yet their fractured textures reveal vulnerability, cracks where light and air still pass through. Soft fields of muted blue-grey on either side suggests open space just beyond reach, heightening the tension between confinement and freedom.
Darn Fence speaks of boundaries imposed and repaired, of limits we accept or resist. It reflects resilience born from necessity—the act of holding things together despite wear, pressure, and time. What stands here is not perfection, but survival: a structure marked by struggle, still standing.
