Dark Shades of Pam is an intimate exploration of the foundational elements that build my figurative work. Inspired by the diverse array of earth tones I employ when rendering skin, this abstract composition brings those individual pigments to the forefront of a plain dark canvas. The title references my own name, signaling a deeply personal connection to the colors that define the human forms in my broader practice. By isolating these hues, I aim to celebrate the richness and complexity of the palette itself, transforming the "building blocks" of my portraiture into a singular, rhythmic narrative of color and texture.

The work is characterized by bold, impasto-like applications of ochre, burnt sienna, and deep umber, which create a vibrant energy against the stark, dark background. Each stroke represents a moment of discovery in the studio—a specific shade used to capture warmth, shadow, or vitality in a subject's skin. Through this rhythmic application, the painting moves away from representation and into pure emotional abstraction, inviting the viewer to appreciate the inherent beauty of the earth's colors. Dark Shades of Pam is a tribute to the materials of my craft and a reflection of the multifaceted layers that make up both an artwork and an identity.
