Daffodils symbolize renewal, hope, and warmth while also signaling the end of long winter months and arrival of springtime. Along with their cheerful yellow colors and frilly, trumpet-shaped centers, they are unmistakable favorites amongst many flower lovers. They are a favorite of mine as well. For my painting, "Daffodils", I chose to keep the background abstract and loose, with complimentary touches of muted purple, Sienna and lush greenery. Instead of a tight, literal depiction, I kept my painting expressive, incorporating elements of pastel drawing to highlight the petals and the frilly centers without heavy, opaque globs of paint. Keeping the painting expressive and gestural symbolizes the fleeting season of springtime and the beauty of the daffodils. The combination of drawing and painting makes this painting truly unique and special.
