This is a second painting of this scene that captivates me. This version is a 'pure' watercolour rather than Line and Wash of the previous version and illustrates two fishermen chatting at the end of the day. The boats are the wide beamed, flat bottomed wooden boats used throughout the 20th Century for crab and lobster fishing along the Norfolk coast. Morston Quay is a tiny National Trust site on the North Norfolk coast, a mile or so downstream from Blakeney. The wooden staging allows tourists to embark on trips to view the seals on Blakeney Point during the summer and apart from this and a small coffee stall there is nothing much else to detract from the wild, muddy, beauty of the place. It is part of the Blakeney National Nature Reserve and coastal walks and wildlife viewing may be enjoyed all year round.
(Note: the painting is 28 cm wide)
Windsor & Newton artist quality watercolours; Cobolt Blue, Light Red, Raw Sienna and Paynes Grey on Bockingford 200lb Not HP watercolour paper.
