I love the shape and size of these wide beamed shallow draught wooden boats. Originally designed for coastal fishing close to the shore there are still many of them in service as private and tourist boats in Norfolk. Having a pointed bow and stern allows the waves to part on either side of the boat. Many are moored in the coastal towns and hamlets along the North Norfolk coast and I delight in painting pictures of them. This line and wash painting was made at low tide and I set my easel up on the gravelly mud of 'the pit' as it is often called by locals. It shows some men calling out to each other towards the end of the days work. Note: the width of the painting is 28cm not 26cm.
