Compared to previous years, the summer was surprisingly cool and rainy. Almost all of the planted seedlings were frozen by unexpected frosts in the spring. So, by the end of summer, the only things that pleased me were onions, leafy beetroot and a couple of courgettes that miraculously survived the slug attack. In the garden beds where last year there was a bountiful harvest of cucumbers, two weak pickles have grown... I'd rather not mention the tomatoes. My cabbage is happily being eaten by beautiful, fat caterpillars. White butterflies flutter in swarms over this whole oasis. But what has truly matured and blossomed in all its natural beauty are the nasturtiums and marigolds. Yellow, orange, scarlet, burgundy, so beautiful that you can't take your eyes off them... and to hell with the cabbage and tomatoes.
I painted this small 50x50 cm work after picking four zucchinis that had miraculously grown ripe in my garden and adorned them with delicately fragrant nasturtium flowers. The zucchinis have already been eaten (they were delicious), the flowers have gone, and only this work remains as a memory of the summer of 2025.
