Converse All Stars Sneaker Wire Sculpture (2022)Sculpture by Jane Tilley

This sculpture is a version of the classic low cut Converse All Stars sneaker. It is just as distinctive and detailed as the original, with the logo on the back, the tongue and the inner sole. I am a self confessed Converse addict myself, owning probably too many pairs so I couldn't resist welcoming it into my world of wire.

I create my sculptural drawings by twisting, weaving, cutting, bending, curling and straightening wire with pliers and wire cutters. The negative shapes between the wire which hold as much importance as the wire itself, encouraging the viewer to recognise this space as part of the sculpture. 

The logos are made with iron wire which is thin and pliable enough to create the detail required, the main shape is in steel wire for it's extra strength, the thicker aluminium wire is perfect for the distinctive black line around the sneaker and the copper wire makes the main structure and laces.

It is lightweight and easy to hang from a wall or just placed on a shelf. Perfect for eclectic, industrial, and modern interiors. I am happy to accept commissions for all other types of shoe.
