When creating this piece, I sought to capture a quiet moment of a cowboy standing still on the open prairie at dusk. It’s a moment of solitude and resolve, with the sunset casting golden-red light on the cowboy and his horse. I focused on the contrast between light and shadow, using the cool grays of the sky against the warm yellows of the horizon to express inner stillness and contemplation.
Technically, I used a combination of impasto and palette knife to emphasize the muscular form of the horse and the textures of the cowboy’s clothing. The background features loose brushwork and gradient blending to evoke a dynamic yet tranquil atmosphere. I deliberately softened the distant landscape to draw the viewer’s attention to the intimate bond between rider and steed.
