Connection lost (2025)Oil painting
by Yuliia Poraiko

£1,487.38

Peonies are vivid, multifaceted, complex — impossible to overlook. I know they were her favorite flowers, because in my childhood the entire yard was planted with peonies. I also know that she loved pearl jewelry. And… that is all.

The woman with open eyes, reaching out her hand, is a metaphor for the future. She searches for answers to questions hidden deep in the distant past. At times, it is precisely these answers that help piece together the scattered fragments from which the lives of future generations are formed.

The woman with closed eyes and a concealed face symbolizes oblivion and unresolved mysteries — those that will never be revealed. The torn pearl necklace becomes a sign of a broken connection between generations: the hand of the future is no longer able to gather it back together.

The painting belongs to the Voices of Generations series. The work was created as part of an artist residency and was exhibited at Rochester Contemporary Art Center
