A parodic treatment of the nativity paintings that were so popular in the 16th-17th centuries (adorations of the Magi/shepherds), but which all but disappeared in modernity. Traditional forms are re-visited and de-familiarized through the circus and Commedia del Arte culture that fascinated early modern painters.
