£580
Original artwork description
I'm a modernist at heart and love Midcentury imagery and furniture, the love extends to the Geometric and Hard Edge painters of the time too.
This square acrylic painting is inspired by and a tribute to two influential creators of the 20th Century and idols of mine, Verner Panton and Josef Albers.
I wanted to paint something that would have depth of colour and radiate light, that while having a retro vibe would be at home in an eclectic or minimalist interior.
Blues and greens are what form the concentric squares until reaching the centre, ending in the palest of apple white. The 3.8cm sides of the cradled birch panel shows a band of the dark blue carried over from the front where it meets the walnut stain.
Since this is painted in matte acrylic there is no glare or reflection to the surface. It's such beautiful buttery paint that I prefer not to cover with a varnish and aim for the slickest edges and surface. After gesso and sanding each square was painted several times for maximum opacity.
