Coltre di neve (2019)Painting by Milena Nicosia

124 x 100 x 4cm (framed) / 114 x 90cm (actual image size)

£2,183.25

A white painting, soft and pure as snow.
The artist carefully prepares canvases, hardboard, wood, and every type of paper on which she will paint or even simply draw. She never works without this long and slow preparation of the surfaces, preparing them to receive her painting.
She sees the surface as the skin of the body of painting, and she impregnates it with special glues, fine or flaked chalk, virgin wax, or honey, following ancient rituals that she has customized to make the skin of her painting unique.
When, after several priming steps, she feels the surface is ready, she continues with the layers of powdered pigments that she will subsequently engrave, draw, and paint with delicate glazes.
This powdery painting is her hallmark; she creates corrosions, models, and engraves with pleasure and mastery of technique, but also with a taste for the unpredictable, the undefined, and the mysterious that emerges from each autonomously created stain and from the sometimes delicate, sometimes abrasive mark. Thus the artist creates a painting between the finite and the undefined, between the insinuating and the hidden, between the illusion of beauty and the drama of reality.
Milena's paintings are breaths of light and shadow! Luminous and dazzling in their purity, the paintings retain a special charm that only a live view can convey.
Milena's paintings always use powdered pigments to create rough, textured surfaces. She loves corrosion, engraving, and carving. She uses excellent protective and consolidating products that guarantee resistance to time and external agents, unaffected by dust, sunlight, or humidity. The artist has discovered unique formulas and techniques that she jealously guards.

Materials used:

pigmenti e olio su legno
