In this painting, “Colorful Cudillero”, I wanted to capture the breath of a small seaside town, where every house holds a story and every narrow street seems to invite a leisurely stroll. I painted these stairways and bright walls so the viewer could feel the warmth of the southern sun, hear the murmur of the sea coming from beyond the horizon, and sense the fragrance of blooming bushes embracing the facades.
I wished the brushstrokes to remain lively and a little restless—for this is how the heart of Cudillero beats: in the red rooftops, in the blue of the sky, in the endless play of light and shadow. This is not just a street, but a romantic path upward—to where an encounter, a secret, or a dream awaits.
I believe that when looking at this painting, one may feel the same lightness and joy that I felt standing before this house, breathing in its colorful, almost fairy-tale atmosphere.
This artwork is made by traditional technology. Oil paints, canvas and linseed oil. I love to write etudes from life in a bright impressionistic manner. Small colorful strokes form a rainbow palette. I will try to convey the movement of air masses and the difference between illuminated and shady places.
Linseed oil on canvas.
