About the artwork

Cold Water is inspired by Claude Monet’s water landscapes, where reflections dissolve form into color and sensation. Here, water becomes both a physical space and a metaphor for exposure, vulnerability, and quiet awakening.

I am drawn to the beauty of the male body, yet masculine sensuality remains strikingly underrepresented in art. Decades after the Guerrilla Girls revealed that only 15% of nudes at major museums were male, the imbalance persists. Even today, male nudes remain a minority in contemporary galleries and online platforms.

While the female nude is firmly established within art history, the male nude still carries an air of discomfort or taboo. This disparity stems from an art historical canon shaped by patriarchal and heteronormative structures that marginalized certain bodies and desires.

With Cold Water, I seek to normalize the male nude as a site of tenderness, introspection, and desire. The figure merges with a Monet-inspired landscape of lilies and shifting light, becoming part of the environment rather than an object within it. Through this fusion, I explore the fluidity of masculinity and imagine how art history might look if the male body had never been excluded.
