Cliffs Above the Turquoise Sea (2023) Original Oil Painting by Aleksandr Dubrovskyy

There is a tiny beach near the center of this painting. From where I was standing, high above the sea, it looked almost impossible to reach.

I liked that contrast. The coast felt enormous, with one cliff continuing after another, but down below was this small patch of sand surrounded by rocks and water.

The painting was done in 2023. I used a lot of green because the slopes were thick with vegetation. The exposed cliffs gave me a completely different group of colors: orange, ochre, violet and brown. Then there was the sea, changing from turquoise near the rocks to deeper blue-green farther out.

I did not try to make the surface too neat. The coast itself was rough and irregular, and I wanted the brushwork to keep some of that character.
