Chromatic Symbiosis (2026) Original Acrylic Painting by Kasia Januszkiewicz

80 x 120 x 4cm (unframed)

£7,416.93

This acrylic painting explores the idea of identity shaped by external expectations. The central female figure is surrounded by chameleons—symbols of adaptation, transformation, and the constant shifting between roles imposed by society. The layered garments, ornamental headdress, and multiplicity of textures suggest the many “costumes” one may feel compelled to wear in order to belong, to fulfill expectations, or to navigate different environments.

The composition combines dense, decorative detailing with expressive, dynamic brushwork. Contrasting color fields—warm reds and oranges against cooler greens and blues—create visual tension while guiding the viewer’s attention across the surface. The repetition of organic forms, such as flowers and reptiles, builds a rhythm that reinforces the theme of transformation and coexistence.

Rather than offering a single, fixed narrative, the work invites reflection on the fluid nature of identity and the balance between authenticity and adaptation. The chameleons function both as protectors and as metaphors, echoing the internal and external pressures that shape how one is seen—and how one chooses to be seen.
