High above, upon churches and ancient cathedrals, chimeras crouch in silence, gazing down at the world of men.
Centuries pass, empires crumble, yet they remain—unchanging, watchful, shrouded in stone and shadow.
We believe them lifeless, frozen forever in their vigil.
But perhaps we are wrong.
Night descends.
The city exhales and falls asleep.
And then their hour begins.
Stone softens into flesh.
Wings unfold with a whisper of ancient dust.
They rise into the dark sky and vanish between the stars and rooftops.
No human eyes behold them—
only animals, who still remember the old magic,
and a few wandering souls, drunk enough to glimpse what should not be seen.
