A contemporary still-life bronze of a chestnut splitting open in its spiny husk, the bristling case parting to reveal the glossy nut within. The artist sets a dark, matte patina across the spiked shell against the brilliant polished gold of the opening interior and the rim of the base — the burst of gold at the centre like a treasure breaking free of its armour. A small, dramatic object, all contrast and texture, that turns a humble autumn seed into something jewel-like.
