Original Painting: Charlie Chaplin

Charlie in the Snow

Description:
A charming watercolour inspired by the classic Charlie Chaplin character and his unforgettable appearance in The Gold Rush. The painting captures Chaplin's iconic Tramp walking through falling snow, dressed in his familiar bowler hat and dark coat, with his walking stick in hand.
The painting is deliberately kept almost entirely in black, white and soft grey, with delicate washes of blue suggesting the cold winter atmosphere. Subtle flesh tones have been added to the face and hands, bringing a gentle warmth and humanity to the otherwise monochrome scene.
The combination of falling snow, Chaplin's unmistakable silhouette and the restrained use of colour gives the painting a nostalgic, cinematic quality, paying tribute to one of the most enduring characters in film history. The inspiration comes particularly from the snowy world of Chaplin's The Gold Rush.
