Title: Autumn in Manhattan
Original hand-pulled reduction linocut print
This piece is inspired by that magical moment in October when the leaves begin to turn and New York transforms into a tapestry of autumn colour. From the windows of the Met, surrounded by ancient dinosaur bones, the view of Central Park and the Manhattan skyline reminds me why I love this city so much.
‘Autumn in Manhattan’ is a reduction linocut – a labor-intensive, hand-crafted printmaking technique where all layers are printed from a single piece of lino. After each layer of colour is printed, more of the lino is carved away, meaning the image can never be replicated. This particular print went through 20 stages of carving and printing to build up the final image.
