“AUGURY” SERIES STATEMENT
This series of works weaves together themes of mythology, science fiction, esoterica and the occult into old master inspired fantasy dreamscapes. These works represent something ancient and modern, drawing inspiration from the renaissance and baroque periods. The method used requires an underpainting in earth tones with translucent layers of oils to build the overall colour scheme. Details are added and refined as the work progresses.
The second work in the "Augury" series was "Casting the Spell", another multi figured work, based on an altar type configuration.
The figures symbolically represent the Earth, the Moon and Mars, and so in turn speak of the eternal connection between our own planet and the human destiny, or at least the intention, to travel and construct bases on the Moon and Mars respectively.
Stylistically this work is one of my most detailed making full use of the old master inspired technique of underpainting and glazing.
