In reality a small oil on linen canvas depicting a section of the Grand Canal, Venice. Delicately detailed yet still retaining some fluid and impressionistic brushwork. Supplied in a charming and exquisite bespoke frame, as shown and all ready to hang.

So many artists have been inspired to paint the unique vistas of Venice and on a recent trip there I came across the paintings of an Italian artist. In my opinion the watercolours by Alberto Prosdocimi, 1852 - 1925 are truly magical and certainly inspiring. His portrayals of the city definitely capture the light and atmosphere of the city and in a time before the plethora of modern canal traffic. I have based this preliminary oil sketch on one of his watercolours of the Grand Canal. There will be more and larger canvases too!
