The entrance to this charming courtyard on Dolores Street between Ocean Avenue and 7th Street lies between the two restaurants: Little Napoli and Vino Napoli. It is called El Paseo, and it is a passageway where new California meets old Spain. Much of Carmel center was built in the 1920s, and this beautiful courtyard reflects the Spanish Colonial Revival style.
I love the colorful tiles on the planter and the fountain and the ornate wrought iron railing on the staircase. I was delighted to explore and capture on canvas the effects of light on different surfaces and textures.

Materials used to create this artwork: oil on oil-primed linen on 1/8" MDF archival art panel, the back of the panel is finished with melamine to prevent warping and deterioration. Painting surface is protected with a coat of Gamvar varnish.

The painting is unframed, and will require a frame to hang. Images showing it framed in home interiors are for presentation of potential framing ideas only.

Materials used:

oil paint, linen canvas, masonite panel, Gamvar varnish
