- Calmness in the forest
Original artwork description
This is a delicate, translucent watercolor: soft blurs of the background in deep blue-green tones (teal, indigo, misty blue), drops of light like stars, light highlights and gradients, creating the feeling of a foggy evening or forest shadow.
The white bells of lilies of the valley stand out for their purity and fragility, the stems and leaves have light, almost transparent strokes. The overall effect is dreamy, melancholic, slightly mysterious and very poetic.
Main features of the style:
Watercolor impressionism: loose, wet strokes, lack of hard contours, focus on atmosphere and light rather than on details - like modern watercolorists in the "loose watercolor" style.
Dreamy / ethereal: a background with gradients and “glow” (wet-on-wet technique), creates a feeling of magic, silence and spring tenderness.
Botanical romance: a precise yet poetic rendering of lilies of the valley - a symbol of purity, spring and sometimes melancholy (inspired by traditional floral watercolors).
Flowers create a spring mood, make us feel happy and relaxed when we look at them.
Charming and sweetly scente lily-of-the-valley is a romantic woodland stunner.
Lily-of-the-valley is an ancient-woodland-indicator plant. If you spot it while you're out exploring, it could be a sign you're standing in a rare and special habitat.
Bees collect pollen from this species as they are attracted by the plant’s sweet smell and flowers.
Its flowers are thought to bring luck in love and so are very popular in wedding bouquets.
A distinctive, pretty flower it was often noted in poems, such as Song to the Lily of the Valley by Thomas Cowherd.
It has also been associated with various folklores, including tales of fairies and nightingales.
A watercolor painting prominently featuring a cluster of Lily of the Valley flowers is depicted. These flowers are characterized by delicate white, bell-shaped blooms supported by dark green leaves. The composition showcases the flowers in various sizes and orientations, with one particularly large flower on the left and several smaller ones arranged diagonally toward the right. An abstract, predominantly blue and gray background with hints of green and yellow-white complements the flowers, possibly evoking a starry night sky. The painting is signed by the artist, identifiable as 'Sokolnikova 23', on the bottom right. The artwork conveys a sense of tranquility and fine detail, as noted through the subtle depiction of individual petals and their natural arrangement.
