For the second year running, I have been trying to grow cabbage in my garden beds and have found that growing such a seemingly undemanding vegetable is not so straightforward. This year, huge, beautiful leaves grew, but they were soon eaten by green caterpillars, which were left behind by white cabbage butterflies.
It is paradoxical how one's perspective and attitude towards certain things and events can change depending on the task at hand. Beautiful creatures such as snails and butterflies suddenly become the fiercest enemies.
Fortunately, my garden does not feed my family and me, but rather serves as a therapeutic tool and a place for relaxation and creativity. But if my family's livelihood depended on it, I foresee that my admiration for how caterpillars and snails happily eat my harvest would turn into a fierce battle with pests.
So yes... attitudes towards those very objects/subjects can change dramatically depending on the situation.
This is my sixth still life work, reminding me of the summer of 2025 and the modest harvest that grew in my garden beds despite all obstacles.
