Original artwork description:

By the Grass Meadow
Sunset to dusk sky,
Over Wincombe woods,
Burnt amber and olive greens,
The grasses illuminated,
Copper, bronze and gold,
Calm and peaceful landscape in July.

Words and feelings of where I live on the border of North Dorset into Wiltshire.
This year the meadow grasses have dried so quickly with all the heatwaves and not much rain. You could hear the crickets and grasshoppers chirping away as I walked along. Inspiring me to create a painting of this special summer evening in early July 2025.
Original impressionist watercolour on extra rough textured watercolour paper 300gsm 140lb.
Wet on wet sporadic washes were applied with my Chinese hake brush. Then with my filbert brush I scrubbed the olive greens on using a three colour mixture with earthy tones for the pastureland. The grass meadow was created by scraping out the layers of paint with my nail.

Materials used:

Extra rough textured watercolour paper 300gsm 140lb bockingford, filbert brush, Chinese hake, Chinese brushes, Windsor and Newton watercolours,
