I work in a distinctive mixed-media technique: first creating a rich, textured background in oils on paper, sometimes adding watercolor layers for subtle depth. The butterfly silhouette is then painted with acrylic.

▶ABOUT THE ARTIST
Mariia Raskin (b. 1979, Kazakhstan) is an abstract-impressionist painter based in Turkey and Northern Cyprus. She holds a degree in Applied Arts with distinction. Her works are part of the permanent collection of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Art, and she has held several solo exhibitions in Cyprus, including one inaugurated by the Prime Minister.
A member of the International Association of Art (IAA) and the Eurasian Art Union (EAU), Mariia is a two-time recipient of the Certificate of Artistic Achievement from the Luxembourg Art Prize and winner of the Boynes Monthly Art Award. Her paintings have been exhibited internationally and featured on major art platforms such as Altiba9, Artsy Shark, and Spotlight Contemporary Art Magazine. On Artfinder, Mariia exclusively presents her works on paper.

I’ve always been fascinated by the intricate patterns on butterfly wings. I often imagine: if I could create a living creature, what kind of wings would it have? My fantasy butterflies reflect emotions, each one expressed through its own unique color harmony.
