Hi, Happy Autumn,

This work is one of my detours into portraiture which I love to do from time to time.
It is derived from a set of daguerreotypes taken during the launch of the SS Great Eastern from the Millwall dock in 1857.
I love the expressions, the period clothes and the deterioration of the photographs - which I have accentuated through a series was yellow and white washes. The tension between Brunel and the others (watching their life savings slide into the water) is incredible..

The work is executed on two canvases.
