This 100x100cm mixed media painting celebrates the beautiful old chestnut trees that line Burgemeester Meineszlaan in Rotterdam—the avenue where I live.

I created this work from a photograph I took this spring of the magnificent chestnut tree in front of our home. Sadly, these ancient trees are slowly disappearing. Each year, we lose several to disease, and though new ones are planted, every loss feels significant. These trees are breathtakingly beautiful and define the character of our avenue.

I wanted to honour this tree—capturing it in spring's fresh growth but painted in warm autumn bronze tones—a reflection on beauty, change, and the cycles of nature.

Materials: Digitally manipulated picture, oil paint, oil sticks, gel medium, and satin varnish on linen canvas in a black floating frame
Size: 100 x 100 cm (unframed) 103x103cm (framed)

Materials used:

Print, heavy gel medium, acrylics, oilpaint, oilsticks, chromepaint, satin coating.
