Early summer, dense green, vermillion and violet. Pruhonice is an amazing park outside the city of Prague. It was conceived and planted in the late 1800's by a rich nobleman with a wonderful imagination and a love of nature. In the summer, we love to get out of the city and walk there with our dogs, drinking in the colour and sound and the smells of nature.
This is one of a series of paintings I have made of the bougainvilleas that grow there - a rare sight, unusual in that theses are a tropical plant and yet, somehow, year after year, they come out and bloom - how they survive the long cold winters we have here is a mystery and a blessing.
