A bookshop in Amsterdam, a place of dreams, of floating letters and dusty spines, creaking floorboards that awaken one from reverie. Outside trams trundle past, thunderous chariots of light and speed, and above gables, home of gulls and pigeons, witness to centuries gone. A place of magic, of spells and mystery. Scents of parchment, incense, pipe smoke, the lingering whiff of tobacco perhaps, brought in on the wake of a lone scholar. The work is rich in detail, subtle and diverse in colour. It is a perfect souvenir of Amsterdam, a perfect gift, a great way to start a collection. The canvas is 0.4 inches deep and can therefore hang without a frame if wished.
