ABOUT THE ART WORK
The painting depicts a picturesque seaport with fishing boats moored near the shore. The composition is built on a striking contrast between the large boats in the foreground and the bright coastal town in the distance. Two boats stand out in the foreground—a red one on the left and a large blue-green one in the center. Their hulls are painted with thick, textured brushstrokes, mixing red, orange, turquoise, blue, and violet hues. The ropes with which the boats are tied to the shore add a sense of reality and movement to the composition. Water occupies the majority of the painting. It is not depicted as smooth—the surface is literally filled with short, energetic brushstrokes that convey ripples, reflections of the boats, and the play of sunlight. Blue and turquoise hues alternate with pink, purple, and golden highlights. A seaside town with low, light-colored buildings is visible in the distance. Beyond it rises a dark mountain slope covered in dense vegetation. On the horizon lies a harbor with numerous yachts and masts, and seagulls fly in the sky. The sky is especially beautiful at sunset: soft yellow, peach, pink, and blue hues gradually blend into one another. The warm light of the sky is reflected in the water, unifying the entire composition.
The painting is executed in a vibrant impressionistic style, with noticeable texture and a loose brushstroke. It evokes the feeling of a sunny day by the sea, fresh air, the movement of the water, and the tranquil life of a small port town.
