This striking work depicts a house in France, basking in the glorious heat of a summer day, indolent, dusty. The flowers are in bloom, the windows closed, and dark, inviting us perhaps to imagine what lies inside. The scents of lavender and cypress, thyme and sage. Poppies bloom. A gentle whisper of hot wind, bringing its own messages from distant lands, from Africa. The colours are raw, with sharp white walls and blue blinds, gently layered and rich in texture. The use of painted over paper and card adds to the satisfying texture. The work is full of promise and warmth and feeling. The canvas is 0.4 inches deep and can hang without the need for framing if wished.
