Blue Room 2 is part of a series created during Zakhar Shevchuk’s artist-in-residence stay, inspired by the emotionally neutral interiors of contemporary hotels. By removing decorative details, the artist reconstructs the space as a composition of pure architectural elements – columns, planes, and measured distances.

The dominant vertical column structures the painting, creating a strong sense of order and separation. Cool blue and grey tones enhance the feeling of artificiality, while the swimming pool introduces a warmer, more fluid shade of blue that subtly disrupts the rigid environment.

Rooted in modernist and early avant-garde traditions, Blue Room 2 transforms a familiar interior into an abstract meditation on space, transience, and quiet isolation within contemporary architecture.
