Blue Room 1 belongs to a series of works created during Zakhar Shevchuk’s artist-in-residence stay, inspired by the impersonal elegance of contemporary hotel interiors. Stripping the space of decoration, the artist reconstructs it as a composition of pure architectural elements – planes, lines, and volumes reduced to their visual essence.
The painting’s cool blue palette and strict geometry convey the artificial, engineered nature of the environment. In contrast, the swimming pool introduces a warmer, more organic shade of blue, painted with expressive brushstrokes that suggest movement and life. This contrast becomes the emotional core of the work – a dialogue between structure and fluidity, control and freedom.
Echoing early modernist and avant-garde aesthetics, Blue Room 1 transforms a familiar interior into a symbolic space. It is less about place and more about perception – an invitation to reflect on modern living, transience, and the subtle presence of nature within constructed worlds.
