Bloom #23 (2026) Original Mixed-media Sculpture by Olga Skorokhod

Bloom #23 is a minimalist paper pulp sculpture exploring transformation and renewal through recycled materials. Delicate circular forms are hand-shaped from discarded paper scraps from previous projects and dried to create a subtle, shell-like texture.

The front surfaces are finished in matte ultramarine acrylic, while the reverse sides are covered with liquid gold leaf, creating a contrast between cool blue and luminous gold. Arranged like a blooming bouquet, the forms balance fragility with resilience.

Inspired by the Japanese philosophies of wabi-sabi and kintsugi, the work embraces imperfection, impermanence, and the beauty of transformation. The gold symbolizes renewal, healing, and new life emerging from what was once discarded.

In "Bloom #23," the circles are arranged in a circular formation, evoking the image of a magnificent bouquet. The work is protected with museum-grade anti-glare acrylic, and framed in a white wood frame.
